Shortly after the break at the cathedral, I walked into an alley to go to the next beer cafe, "Quinten Matsijs". It is located in a narrow alley set back from the Grote Markt. It's a bit hard to find. I would strongly advise that you check the way using Google Maps in advance!
"Quinten Matsijs" is the oldest beer cafe in Antwerp. The atmosphere was lovely and old fashioned, I felt it was a good cafe.
I drank "De Koninck TRIPEL D'ANVERS (ABV 8%)" there.
De Koninck:http://www.dekoninck.be/
"De Koninck TRIPEL D'ANVERS" is one of the regular beer brewerd by Brouwerij De Koninck NV, which is a local beer brewery in Antwerp.
As you can see, "TRIPEL D'ANVERS" is a light coppery, amber colored beer. It has a slightly sweet smell, similar to vanilla or caramel or something, and it leaves a slightly bitter taste in your mouth.
Its alcohol concentration is higher than most Japanese beer, so, if you are someone who gets drunk easily, be careful not to drink to much!
Wonderful Belgian beers made me so happy! I went back to my hotel with a good feeling.
However, Belgian beers were a bit strong for my hungry belly!
I intended to take a nap until the evening and visit another beer restaurant, BUT when I woke up, it was 9 pm.... As you know, my hotel was far from the old town and it was a bit of a pain going out for a drink.
In the end, my first dinner in Belgium was a Subway sandwich while watching the Soccer World Cup 2014....
