I moved on to the "Beguinage (Begijnhof)" close to the brewery.
The Beguinage is a semi-monastic community of women called Beguines.
Entering through the main gate, there is a lovely courtyard surrounded by the beguine houses. It is requested that people remain silent when visiting.
This is the main gate of the Beguinage, a bridge across the canal. There are many swans on the water. This place is a famous location for shooting romantic pictures. But if you don't hurry the perfect atmosphere is quickly broken by the sightseeing boats!
The places around the Beguinage and the De Halve Maan brewery is not as popular as the Market Square in the downtown area. However it is a good place to relax and sip beer as the area is so quiet....
After a brief scenic walk, I headed to my true destination. Which was the local beer cafe "De Garre".
From a busy, touristy street, I ventured into a very narrow alley and I finally found "De Garre"!
"De Garre" is a small two-story brick cafe with a wonderful atmosphere.
My first glass today is "Achel Blond 8 (ABV 8%)".
As I mentioned before, there are 6 trapist breweries in Belgium as of 2014, and Achel is also one of the trapist beers. The "Achel Blond 8" is a golden beer with a fruity and malty aroma. It has a slightly hoppy bitterness.
There were more than 100 different types of beer on the menu and I asked a person who looked like a regular customer of the cafe which beer he recommends. The middle aged man said, "Tripel van De Garre, if you don't drink this, there's no point in coming here." In addition, the people around him highly recommended the same beer to me too!
The second glass was "Tripel van De Garre (ABV 11.5%)".

The "Tripel van De Garre" is a very strong cloudy golden beer. It has a bit of a caramel flavor with a light malty and a fruity sweet aroma. It is mild and easy to drink.
But be careful not to drink too much!
I went back to my hotel and fell asleep on the sofa. "Tripel van De Garre" was too strong for me.... When I woke up, it was midnight.
