ベルギー旅行

Day 2 in Bruges, the weather was cloudy.

The well-preserved historic town has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000 and Bruges is the most popular tourist site in Belgium.
There are lots of famous architectural structures, picture galleries and museums, so there are many sights to see in Bruges. But, as I said before, I'm not really interested in any of that. However, as it was a rare opportunity, I dropped by the Church of Our Lady(Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk).

The church is well known for hosting Michelangelo's work, "The sculpture Madonna and Child" and it was the only artwork I went to see in Bruges!

I headed to the Church of Our Lady early in the morning as it was just a 5 minute walk from my hotel.

The church has the world's second tallest brick tower(122.3m) so it was easy to find.

Unfortunately, the inside of the church was under restoration, however thanks to that I could see the "The sculpture Madonna and Child" at an especially low price!

After visiting the church, I continued on to my original destination.

"I found it!"
Though I had not reached my destination yet, on the way, I happened to find the shooting locations from the "Suiyo Dodesyo(How do you like Wednesday?)"!!

Here is the place where a member of the cast was forced to eat the VERY SWEET Belgian local specialities, chocolate and mazipan.
Unfortunately I couldn't find a marzipan at the same confectionery store. However there are many cake shops along this street, so if you love sweet things, it is a very fun place.

I arrived at my destination.

It was a local brewery called "De Halve Maan" which has been around for 6 generations.

The brewery has a stylish beer restaurant and offers a guided tour through their brewing hall and museum, which even has a unique panoramic view over the town from the top of the buildings. There are 4 guided tours, English, French, German and Dutch, so I joined the English tour.

Nowadays they make beer with modern brewing systems but the tour offers you the opportunity to visit both the modern brewery and also see the old traditional brewing methods in the museum.

A wonderful panoramic view over the town from the top of the brewery.
After the unique guided tour, you can enjoy a free beer tasting!!
