...I ate tomato pasta for lunch, and again I got irritated waiting a long time for my check!
I saw this shop several times during my trip in Belgium, it sells a variety of goods related to Belgian beer. There are lots of beer glasses and hundreds of Belgian beers, it is a sort of heaven for beer lovers! If it were possible, I wanted to bring some bottles home!
I'd hired a guide for 3 hours in advance because I knew I wouldn't do any sightseeing, and I would get tired of just drinking beer alone. Truthfully I am not too interested in tourist attractions and during my trip, I'd mostly just been drinking beer in Belgium. Despite hiring a guide, I lost even more interest in sightseeing. I considered just asking to see beer cafes, but I wouldn't tell the guide that, so we first headed to the most popular tourist spot in Brussels, the Grand Palace....
The Grand Place is the central square of Brussels and it is surrounded by buildings worth seeing, for example brilliant guild houses and the Brussels City Hall. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998 and it is a bright and beautiful square.
What do you think this star-shaped mark on the ground is?
An old legend says that the architect who built the tower of the city hall realized the tower was a little inclined, and in his anguish he jumped to his death from the top of the tower.
Speaking of Belgium, this is the Manneken Pis(Manikin Piss statue)!
The Manneken Pis is a small bronze statue which depicts a naked little boy taking a pee. It's a tiny statue and you might be slightly disappointed with it but there's no reason to skip this attraction, as the statue is conveniently located near the Grand Place. Though it's a very tiny statue, there are many shops which are displaying other colorful statues and the area is always very lively. I definitely recommend that you pay it a visit.
After some brief sightseeing, we headed to what I was really looking forward to, a local beer cafe!
"A La Mort Subite", it is the most famous beer cafe in Brussels but the name of the cafe is horrible. The meaning of "Mort Subite" is "sudden death" in French....
The "A La Mort Subite" has a tall ceiling, long wooden benches and brilliant accessories on the wall. It is a beer hall with an atmosphere of the traditional beer cafe.
I ordered the "Mort Subite Peach" on draught (ABV 4.5%), which is the brand name for a number of lambic beers. Contrary to the name, the beer has a fruity flavor and a refreshing sour taste. I thought I would die immediately by drinking the beer, however it was actually a really nice beer!
There is an another statue which depicts a naked child taking a pee in Brussels. The Manikin Piss statue is a sightseeing spot widely known in the world, but another statue, the Jeanneke Pis statue, is not-so well known.
The Jeanneke Pis statue depicts a naked girl taking a pee. Unlike the naked little boy, the place around her was empty...it is probably a little too realistic....
