Our 2nd beer cafe was the "Theatre Royal De Toone".
As you can see, it is located at the back of a narrow alley from the main street. When walking into the alley, you'll need a bit of courage!
Once you step inside, you can tell there is a distinctive atmosphere compared to other beer cafes. While the De Toone is a small cafe, it is also a historic marionette theater. I heard that the De Toone is full of tourists whenever performances are held there.
"Blanche De Bruxelles (ABV 4.5%)".
It is a cloudy pale yellow beer with a sour aroma similar to a citrus fruit. It is not that bitter and is quite a refreshing beer.
I was taught by my guide that if I place my coaster over the top of my glass and shake it slightly when I felt it wasn't carbonated enough, it would make the beer better. He called it, "Belgian style" as many Belgians do this.
At the recommendation of my guide, our 3rd beer cafe was the "Manneken".
I drank the "Grimbergen Brune (ABV 6.5%)".
It is a dark amber beer which is sweet like brown sugar and is not too bitter. It has a bit of a fruity flavor. It's smooth beer with a clean finish.
It seems like many Japanese customers stop by as there was even a Japanese menu!
Our 4th beer cafe was the "A L'IMAIGE NOSTRE DAME".
Like the previous cafe, it is also located at the back of a narrow alley from the main street. So you'll need a bit of courage to go there too.
I ordered the "Bourgogne Des Flandres Brune/Bruin (ABV 5%)".
It is a dark brown beer and has a good balance of sweet and sour. It's not very bitter and has a malty taste. But it is too sweet for me....
"I'm full, so I can't drink anymore!"
I went back to my hotel in a good mood.
I'll move to my next destination, Zermatt in Switzerland, tomorrow!
