ベルギー旅行

After I checked in at the hotel, I wasted no time to go sightseeing in Gent.

First, I headed to Leie, a river flowing through Gent. The banks in the old twon are well-known for its row of grand architecture.
Most of the architecture bordering the river are former "guild houses" and they are evidence of how Gent used to be thrive economically town in the past. The building are well-preserved and nowadays, when people talke about Gent, this is the most common image that comes to mind. The area was bustling with tourists, it was very popular.

A short walk brought me to the next tourist attraction, the Gravensteen Castle. It wasn't what most Japanese would expect a "castle" to look like. It was more like a fortress than a castle.
There is a room with medieval arms on display, and even one with a medieval torture theme! I think that kids love to visit this place, but I'm not sure if it's even worth the price of admission....

However, the view from the top was not bad!

There is another tourist attraction in front of the castle. It's the old fish market(Oude Vismarkt). The gatehouse of the former fish market was built in 1689, the three sculptures of sea gods built on the roof are very eye-catching. Currently, there is a tourist information center inside the building.

I ate Chinese noodles for dinner and I went shopping at a supermarket. I was overwhelmed by the number of shelves dedicated just to Belgian beer!! Additionally, I was surprised by how cheap they were!! I ended up buying a bottle of "Leffe". It only cost me 1.3 euro, which is a little less than 200yen!
