On the 2nd day of my stay in Gent, the weather was ideal for sightseeing and a beer break!
I headed to the river to continue where I left off yesterday.
The town was very quiet early in the morning and it was hard to believe that it had been crowded with people the previous day. It was as beautiful as a painting!
Usually most Japanese tourists who come Belgium visit Brussel and Bruges, spending most of their time only visiting those two places. Despite that Gent is located between those two cities, people pass through without noticing its charm. I think that it is shame!
Gradually shops and cafes began to open in the town, so I went straight to a beer cafe which had just opend.
Today's first sip is a local beer of Gent called "Gulden Draak (ABV 10.5%)".
It means "golden dragon" and it's named after a legend of dragon in Gent. "Gulden Draak" is a strong beer which is dark in color. It is also very malty and quite sweet. I don't really like sweet beer, however the aftertaste is slightly bitter and I like it!
After a little refreshment, it's time for the river cruise!!
I viewed the historical townscape from a different angle it was interesting!
Great Butchers' Hall(Het Groot Vleeshuis) remains from the Middle Ages (1410-) and is one of several historical buildings in Gent. Nowadays, there is a restaurant inside the building. There are lots of hams hanging from the ceiling, which are probably fake, but is looks unique!
