First, we went to Dun Aonghasa, which is the most famous tourist attraction there. According to a map which we got at the rental bicycle shop, there were 2 choices. One was the 'Easy course (orange line)' which followed a road along the seaside. The other was the 'Hard course (green line)' which passed through the center of the island. We were all young except me! And so we chose the 'Hard course'.... 15 minutes from the port, we reached the forked road between the two courses. "Ah-, they chose the hard course!!"

The road changed from asphalt into dirt. A steep uphill slope was continuous and there were lots of stone walls all over. It looked like a maze which was separated by stone walls. There were no trees as far as we could see. I was gradually getting a big picture of the Island as I went up the steep hill.
The hill in the center of the island was covered with stone walls and I could see at the sea from there. There were a few houses along the coast. And the dirt road which we had rode up stretched out continuously. "There is really nothing here!" There was just noise of the wind and I couldn't even hear the birds. It was just silent. It was my first experience of an absolutly silent world.

We got going up the steep hill. I didn't have enough power to get up the hill, but I managed to keep up with other people.
The Aran Island is the home of the famous sweaters. But I had seen no sheep there, so I wondered if they are really made there....
