I got on a gondola at Bettmeralp and headed for the Bettmerhorn. Unlike the gondola connecting Fiescheralp and the Eggishorn, the gondolas running between Bettmeralp and the Bettmerhorn are smaller and constantly running with barely any waiting time, so it's easy to use for hikers.
There is a restaurant with a viewing platform and an attraction with a glacier theme, "EISWELT BETTMERHORN" at the mountain top station. It looked nice but this time I decided to pass on it.
A short walk from the gondola station takes you to a viewing platform. Many people were enjoying the view of the glacier.
The altitude is lower than the Eggishorn where I'd previously visited, however the huge glacier was spread out before us here too. Here, you can enjoy the glacier from a different angle compared to that of the view from the Eggishorn.
After seeing the wonderful view of the glacier, I started to hike toward the town of Bettmeralp at the foot of the mountain.
I hiked down a difficult, rocky path with the glacier to my right. While checking the hiking signs along the path, I kept walking down carefully.
There are many hiking trails leading to the bottom of the mountain. I followed a hiking trail which passes under the gondola ropeway. I chose this path because the ropeway would always be above me and it looked like it would keep me on track.
The town I was heading for came into view in the distance. A small sharp point could be seen in far the distance, which I knew was the Matterhorn.
I arrived at the Bettmer lake. The town is just around the corner.
"Check it out!"
I came down from around the top of that mountain!
I finally arrived at the town of Bettmeralp. Unlike the town of Riederalp's quiet atmosphere, there are many cafes and shops in Bettmeralp, so it's a bit more of a lively town. If you like busier towns, you should probably stay at Bettmeralp.
I passed through the town of Bettmeralp on my way back to Riederalp. It takes about a 50-minute walk between Bettmeralp and Riederalp.
By the time I finally came back to my hotel, I was dead tired. But I was revived by a nice cold beer!
I had an excellent dinner. I treated it as a reward to myself for walking with all my might today.
I hope the weather will be clear tomorrow too!
