We were leaving Wellington for Picton, on the top of the South Island. There are two ferry services operating, Interislander Ferry and Blue Bridge Ferry, that link Wellington and Picton. Both have many connecting services each day and they are very convenient. My ticket was on the ferry departing from Wellington at 10:35a.m. So I had been busy with packing all morning.
Lots of passangers boarded the viewing decks on the ferry because of the wonderful scenery. I was also on the viewing decks but it was terribly cold standing in the wind.
left, right:
People say that Japanese like taking a picture. But I saw that there were lots of people, who were non-Japanese, taking thousands of pictures! I think that Japanese like taking photos for souvenires at tourist destinations. And non-Japanese like to take pictures of a beautiful scenery and something else interesting. Most Japanese never take pictures of exhibits in the museum, except myself!
The ferry went over the Cook Strait to Picton. As we left Wellington Harbor it was quite windy with rough waters. So I couldn't stay in the cabin.... If you don't mind rough waters and the weather is not bad, this is a fun way to travel between both islands.
On our way from the mouth of Marlborough Sounds we passed through the picturesque sounds. And the sea became calm. If the weather is fine and you are lucky, you might see dolphins or whales. Unfortunately I couldn't see them.
