The town was full of half-timbered buildings and little wine restaurants. It was a typical small German town and it was very attractive. However it wasn't so touristy and there was a relaxed atmosphere. Bacharach is a nice charming little town!
There are lots of well-preserved historical buildings so it was designated a World Heritage site in 2002.
This half-timbered building is the oldest building of Bacharach. It was built in 1368!
Bacharach was first documented in the 9th century. For hundreds of years the town has been famous for its wonderful vineyards and trading wine. Bacharach is sitll one of the best known wine regions today.
We wandered around looking for a restaurant and we found a good looking one with a family atmosphere. Bacharach is well-known for its delicious local white wine. Of course, the restaurant features local German dishes and a local wine selection!
We drank dry white wine with our lunch. It was the first time in a while that I'd drunk anything besides beer. It tasted excellent! However, I felt myself compelled to take a long drink of the wine like the way I'd always done when I drank beer. It's dangerous to do it.
We ordered typical German dishes and they tasted as good as they looked.
Sure enough, our dishes were served with a mountain of boiled potatoes.
How many potatoes do we need!?
...I left all to my friend!
