kehlsteinhaus (Eagle's Nest)
When I got up early in the morning, the weather was really bad. It was more like a storm than rain.
I had no choice but to kill time by eating breakfast and playing games on my ipod until better weather came.
Finally, dark clouds had gone before noon so I got out in a rush.
My destination was the kehlsteinhaus (Eagle's Nest). I recommend you get a local bus timetable at a tourist office in advance.
I got on a route bus at the train station and I headed for Eagle's Nest. Eagle's Nest is situated on a ridge at the top of Mt.Kehlstein(1834m).
After 20 minutes bus ride, you will get to a parking lot at Obersalzburg. There is no public road from Obersalzberg to Kehlsteinhaus and private vehicles are forbidden from driving along the road ahead. So you have to get on a shuttle bus to the Eagle's Nest from there.
The shuttle bus climbed up a narrow mountain road and took me to the Eagle's Nest.
Here is the entrance to the Eagle's Nest.
This is where the shuttle bus drops you off.
As I had worried, everything was still in the clouds.
When you get off the bus, you have to book a return ticket at the office.
This 124m tunnel leads you to a golden lift for the vertical ascent. The lift takes you to the kehlsteinhaus.
