Switzerland/top

On the 2nd day after arriving in Switzerland, I headed for the mountains via Bern and Interlaken.
According to the forecast, the weather was bad all over Switzerland. Additionally, the forecast said that the weather would be gloomy for the following few days!!

I changed trains two times and I arrived at my destination, Grindelwald in the Berner Oberland region. It was a 3-hour trip.

Grindelwald is a beautiful small village against a backdrop of the Eiger north face. It's well-known as a starting point for getting to the Jungfrau which is one of the main summits in the Bernese Alps, climbing the Eiger and other famous mountains.
Though it is a small village with a population of only 4,000, it has more than 1,000,000 visitors a year! Of course, Grindelwald is a very popular place for Japanese tourists. As you can imagine, it was quite a touristy village.

Hotel Restaurant Alpina is a 3-star hotel with easy access from the train station. The staff members were very very friendly and it looked like they were used to receive Japanese tourists. I'd recommend this hotel with hesitation!

By the way, wonderful views of the Eiger north face from its higher-priced rooms are its main feature. however I stayed in a cheaper room. It is better to save money than to see lovely views from the window....

As the weather forecast predicted, the weather was bad and I decided to go to a restaurant for lunch.
Grindelwald is located in the bottom of the valley at about a 1000m elevation and so when the weather turned bad, it was much colder than I had expected. The only thing I could do to keep myself warm was eating some soup and drinking beer. However, it was so cold that I couldn't stop shivering....

I was able to enjoy delicious cuisine for dinner because I saved money on accommodation. To me, it's a better deal than a room with wonderful views!
