Muerren is situated at an elevation of 1650m above the U-shaped glacial valley Lauterbrunnen. Muerren is a car-free village and there is no public road up there from the valley.
Two aerial ropeways lead you up to the top from the valley and if you come from the Grindelwald railway station, an aerial ropeway from Lauterbrunnen to Gruetschalp is convenient.
When getting out of the ropeway at Gruetschalp, you have 2 options in order to get to Muerren, a 30-minute train ride or a 1-hour hike.
Between Gruetschalp and Muerren, it is a wonderful scenic ride. However, if you don't have any suitcases, I recommend you hike to Muerren. It is a perfect hiking trail because the whole way is almost flat and while walking from the station to Muerren, you can always see the famous group of mountains, Eiger, Moench and Jungfrau! |
