The sight of Matterhorn from the beginner's hiking trail.
Looking at the Matterhorn from here, I could hardly believe that it was a 4478m high mountain. It seemed that I could almost reach the top!

After a while, the hiking trail split in several directions. No matter which trail you choose, none of them are that hard, even for beginner hikers. But there are some gaps and uneven ground on the way so you have to mind your step.

I followed more direct path to get to Zermatt and I kept on walking with my back to Matterhorn. I couldn't see the view of Matterhorn. However, as I hiked down, I enjoyed the typical Swiss scenery such as alpine meadows, cattle feeding, and marmots scuttling about.

I took a break for lunch at Zmutt.
The weather was wonderful and the beer was excellent. Unfortunately, even if the weather was nice, the Matterhorn can not be seen from Zmutt.

From Zmutt to Zermatt.
You just have to follow the road. It's an easy walk.

If you have time to visit the mountain in the early evening, you might get lucky and get a closer look at marmots.

In the mornings and evenings, marmots bustle to look for food so it is easy to see them.
Surprisingly they live in close proximity to humans, for example, near station buildings and next to railway lines. I could see them right beside the hiking trails and at the nearby station building.

My dinner was probably the world's most expensive "Bigmac". But, the 500ml canned beer which I drank with it was cheaper than cheap. However, the total of the meal was still higher when compared to the price in Japan.

Anyway, everything costs a lot in Swizerland and in particular, it's really expensive to have a meal out. Why are things so expensive in Switzerland? I wonder how people can live there....
