Burg Hohenzollern
Is another highlight of this region. The castle is about 20km outside of Tubingen and it takes 30 minutes by local train.
First, we went to Hechingen station, which is the closest station to Burg Hohenzollern. A bus connection between the station and the castle's parking lot is available but the service is only once or twice a day. The bus connection is inconvenient and I recommend you take a taxi.
The taxi from the station to the castle took an autobahn, which is the German motorway, and we got the chance to drive on a motorway at breakneck speed. Frankly, I thought I was going to die!
right:
The Hohenzollern castle is located at the top of Mt. Hohenzollern at an elevation of 855m. As we drove from the station, the castle gradually came into view. Our expectations for the beautiful castle increased!

Here is the castle's parking lot. There is a tiny information office, a cafe and a gift shop.

Private vehicles are forbidden from driving along the road ahead, but a shuttle bus up to the castle entrance is available. Unlike us, if you have the guts to walk up a steep hill in the hot, summer, sun, you can walk along a mountain path from the parking lot to the castle.

The shuttle bus runs about every 20 minutes during the tourist season. A round-trip ticket is 2.8 euro.

A ticket office was at the castle entrance and we got a free map there.

The castle is a massive piece of practical architecture and it had a mysterious atmosphere. It was very impressive to see the building close-up.

The castle is the best place for looking over the surrounding countryside.
