Ulm Minster is the second-largest Gothic church in Germany after Kolen Cathedral. In the Middle Ages, this enormous cathedral could hold more than 20,000 churchgoers!

Called "The Ulmer Spatz", a bird-shaped figure is on display at the church. It says that the Ulmer Spatz is a landmark of Ulm.
According to a legend, during the construction of the Ulm Minster, people carted long timber rods into the city. But they couldn't get through the narrow city gates and they were at a loss for what to do.
Then people saw a sparrow flying back to its nest with a long straw in its beak. The sparrow turned the straw lengthwise and it went into its narrow nest.
Suddenly people got an idea into their mind. They piled the long timber rods lengthwise onto their cart and passed through the gate without a problem.
Since that time, a sparrow with a straw has been Ulm's symbol.
This is reason why I have seen there are lots of bird-shaped objects throughout the town. "I feel much better now!"

After climbing down from the viewing deck, I went to the "Fischer Viertel(fishermen's quarter)", the most romantic area of Ulm.
I found a good restaurant with a traditional atmosphere. It is situated near the end of the stone bridge and there are several outside tables on the bank.

The view from the outside table was wonderful.

The restaurant offered Gold Ochsen's beer.

Ulm is located along the Danube river, which is the second longest river in Europe and fresh fish meals are very popular to tourists. I ordered a salad with grilled trout.

Good job!
I almost finished everything on my plate!

They were making preparations of the World Cup at the Munster platz in front of the Ulm church.
This big square would be full of supporters for the German national team the following night. Unfortunatly, I was leaving Ulm the following day.

Once again! My dinner was a packed Sushi box from Nordsee. Nordsee is a popular seafood restaurant and it can be found everywhere in medium to large-sized German city.
A packed Sushi box from Nordsee is the last resort for tourists who are tired of eating a mountain of German food!
