Bamberg is a popular tourist destination and it was very busy.
When I visited Bamnerg in 2008, it was on a snowy rain day in December. I wandered around looking for famouse brewries that made Rauchobier during the miserable weather. It was a bad experience!
I expected this time would be better.
The best-known sight of Bamberg is Alte Rathaus(Old Townhall), which is located on the island in the middle of the river Regnitz. It is accessed by two main bridges, either side.
A part of the building hangs directly above the flowing water and it lookes very unique.
Lots of visitors take its photo from different angles to grasp its uniqueness. I think that it must be the most frequently photographed site of Bamberg.
The old town is basically divided into two by the river Regnitz and there are several canals around the Old Townhall. Therefore, there are so many different kinds of bridges; a modern bridge which is decorated with beautiful flowers, wooden bridges, road bridges and arched-stone bridges. They provided interesting views of the old town from different angles and spots.
A view from a bank of one of the canals. There is still a little vestige of its former atmosphere.
Brauerei Spezial The 4th brewery that I visited in Bamberg was "Brauerei Spezial".
The brewery was first mentioned in 1536 and it's been brewing for more than 450 years!
Brauerei Spezial is one of the breweries that makes Rauchobier in Bamberg. "Rauchbier" is a love-it-or-hate-it beer because of its unique strong aroma. But the Rauchobier of Spezia is less smoky than the Rauchobier of Schlenkerla and it is easier to drink.
Once again, I ate a packed Sushi box for dinner. To be honest, it nothing special. I figured that there was a big difference because of the rice variety used.
