Zurich to Japan

Let me show you how many Japanese hikers there were.

...Everyone you can see here is Japanese!!

After a 35-minute walk from the Gornergrat station, you'll arrive at Riffelsee. The Riffelsee is popular with hikers as a place where they can see the lovely reflection of the Matterhorn in the lake. Of course, only if you have a cloudless sky and there is very little breeze.

If you don't have much time you can take this short hike, by taking the Gornergratbahn to Rotenboden station(2819m) and then walking down to the Riffelsee. It is only a 5-minute walk.

I kept on walking after the Riffelsee(2757m) and headed to Riffelberg station(2600m). There were several hiking trails and I chose one of the easiest trails. From the Riffelsee to Riffelberg station, it was about a 55-minute hike.

I arrived at Riffelberg station(2600m). It was the finish line for the Zermatt Marathon which was taking place today.
I was surprised because I had seen the start line in downtown Zermatt! It was a 42.195km full marathon.
In case you don't know, it is almost all uphill and remember that it's in a place which is located at 2600m above sea level!

Near the station, there is a restaurant and the Hotel Riffelberg which is one of the most traditional hotels in Zermatt.
From the sun terrace of the hotel, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Matterhorn.
