After taking a beer break, I started to walk again to Rifelalp(2220m). Before long, the trail turns down ward on a steep zigzag path. After rain, you might tumble down the hillside if not careful!
After a steep downhill, the trail reaches Riffelalp(2200m).
A landmark of Riffelalp is "Riffelalp Resort 2222" which is a luxury 5 star hotel near Riffelalp station.
The signboards were saying there was an "easy" hiking trail from Riffelalp to Zermatt. BUT I had learnt my lesson from my previous experience so I went back to Zermatt by train!
Then I went to the same pub as on the previous day and ate Japanese style curry once again. At the pub, Japanese style curry with a drink was 1500yen(15euro/ 16CHF). To the Japanese, it is quite more expensive than ordinary curry in a usual restaurant in Japan.
For your information, it isn't only that the prices of Japanese food are high, everything is much more expensive in Switzerland! For example, the Big Mac combo meal from McDonald's costs 1100yen in Switzerland. It costs 650yen in Japan.
It is awfully hard for long term tourists to eat out in Switzerland!
After my meal, I headed to Klein Matterhorn.
Together with Gornergrat, Klein Matterhorn is a popular sightseeing spot and it has the highest viewing platform in Zermatt at a height of 3883m. The summit of Klein Matterhorn is accessible by aerial ropeways and the ropeway station is on the outskirts of Zermatt, Schluhmatten. The station is about a 15-minute walk from the center of town.
The Klein Matterhorn is at the end of an interesting ropeway journey from Zermatt.
During the first third of the journey, the ropeway travels over green landscape and then the surrounding scenery changes to rugged landscape. Finally, the ropeway takes a path above and an amazing huge glacier!
Outside the terminal ropeway station there is a skiing area.
On clear days you can enjoy skiing while looking closely at the Matterhorn.
When I visited there, the weather was bad so I drank a beer and went straight back to the town. What a waste? No, I was pretty happy with drinking a beer at 3883m elevation!!
In the evening my dinner was a light meal. Unexpectedly, Swiss breads were very good.
At bakeries in Zermatt, there was a wide variety of bread and the prices were reasonable. However, there was nothing special as Japanese people would expect.
If the Matterhorn was a popular tourist attraction in Japan, we would expect to see unique breads like "Matterhorn croissant(maybe...it would be a bread in the shape of Matterhorn)"!
When Japanese people visit the famous tourist spots in Japan, we always expect to see something special related to the tourist attraction and interestingly, there are definitely souvenirs for sale there!
There is one thing I've been wondering.
Why other countries don't do the same thing....
