I took some pictures of the monuments then I headed for the city center. Because I had walked along the main streets to the park from the station, I chose a seashore path on my way back to downtown. I walked along the coast for a while, but then it got very cold. When I was walking and shivering looking for somewhere to warm myself up, I saw a small cottage in the distance!
It looked like an antique shop but it was a small cafe!
There was a mysterious atmosphere inside. There were lots of things which I wasn't so sure about....
left:
Finnish menu. Of course, I couldn't read the Finnish menu. All I knew was "KAHVI(coffee)", "TEE(tea)" and "KAAKAO(chocolate)".
center:
Karjalanpiirakka, which was a pastry made with rye flour and it was stuffed with rice porridge. I ate the pastry with a boiled egg dressed with butter. It was a common way to eat this pastry.
right:
Joulutortu, Finnish special pastry for Christmas. It was star-shaped Joulutortu and it was probably a traditional shape of the pastry.
The building looked old. However, the front door automatically opened like an automatic door.... Looking closely around the door, there was a pulley on the celling. Every time people stood in front of the door, a cafe staff member pulled the rope to open the door from the counter. It was a hand-operated automatic door!
After I warmed myself at the cozy cafe, I headed for downtown again. The surface of the water looked frozen like an ice rink. I tried to throw stones into the water for fun, they bounced on the surface. It seemed that the surface was completely frozen.
