It is very busy with lots of commercial vehicles, though it is early in the morning. As expected, the streets were full of vehicles delivering beer and wine. The sight is typical for Germany.

The old part of the city was a nice place to walk around. There were lots of interesting shops and the streets were full of curious things.

The most curious thing for me was this poster, advertising on the wall of a Sushi restaurant. The advertisement was saying the "The world's long awaited invasion of the Duesseldorf roll!"
Unfortunately, it was closed and I didn't try it. It will be something to check on my next visit to Germany.

Zum Uerige
I heard that Uerige is the most traditional beer pub in Duesseldorf and it is well known for its wonderful Altbier.
Altbier is the name given to certain local German beer and it is very popular in the region around Duesseldorf. There are four beer pubs which brew Altbier on their property in the old town, and "Zum Uerige" is one of the four beer pubs.
It serves traditional Altbier with a good atmosphere and it is also easy to find in the old town. Don't miss it if you love beer and you visit Duesseldorf!

We met two Japanese men. One of them had been living in Dusseldorf for over 30 years and the other was a tourist who came to see him. They were very friendly and they gave us lots of information about German beer. In addition, they bought us many glasses of beer! Thank you very much for everything!

Altbier is a kind of dark beer. It tasted a little bitter and it had a distinct flavor.

Altbier is served in a unique way. First, as you can see, it is served with a small glass. Second, there are a set of unwritten rules.
Staff members are strolling around tables with a tray loaded with glasses of beer and they look for a chance to serve you beer! If you don't pay constant attention all around you, bar staff will place another glass of beer right in front of you without asking. When you don't want to drink more beer, just put your coaster on your glass. Otherwise you may suffer a bad hangover the next day. If you are a beer lover, it's definately worth visiting there!

As you can see, if there is some left in your glass, don't get overconfident yet. Bar staff are all attentive to your glass!
right:
Bar staff count the number of beers you order by making ticks on your beer coaster. Ticks on the coaster show how many glasses you have drank, instead of a bill. It is very interesting to glance at other people's coasters.

We were treated to nice local food by two Japanese men. The number of marks on their coasters increased and eventually they became like this photo!

This is an unique hanging sign of "Zum Uerige". I think it's designed to match its character.

For your information, this pub is very popular with locals. In the evening, inside and outside, tables were always packed with people!
