It's the morning of the 4th day of my stay in Bamberg. It had been getting hotter every day and I was losing my appetite. I lost my appetite but I had room for beer.
First thing in the morning, I headed to a brewry with a map in hand.
According to the map, my destination was on top of the hill, so I had to walk up a long slope that early in the morning. To drink a famous beer, there was no choice but to take some pain.
Brauerei Greifenklau
Brauerei Greifenklau was founded in 1719 and it is one of the 10 breweries of Bamberg. It is located in a quiet residential area and it is far from downtown. It is a pupular brewery with locals because of its a relaxing atmosphere.
Going through the building, you can see a pleasant beer garden in the backyard!
There are lots of trees which provide full shade and you can relax with a beer in the shade.
From the beer garden, you can see the view of a small castle standing on top of the mountain in the distance.
Brauerei Greifenklau doesn't brew the famous local beer, "Rauchbier" so it is a little known brewry to Japanese. However, I thought that the beer was very good.
Then, after walking down the slope to the town, I headed to another beer garden. It is also located on a hill and I had to climb a hill again! But, to my despair, the beer garden was closed! The beer garden is operated by the famous brewery, &Spezial".
I heard that the beer garden has a fantastic view of the city and it was one of the most beautiful beer gardens in the world! But I missed my big chance to visit it and it was really a shame!!! For your information, it opens from about 3p.m. during weekdays and I understand that during weekends it opens from noon.
I found a nice Italian restaurant in the old town. I was worried about getting a mountain of food so I just ordered a tomato sauce pasta.
However, a friendly waiter offered "With salad?" and subconsciously, I said "Yes!".
It slipped out.
The salad was much bigger than the pasta!!!
