Corviglia
I eventually abandoned the hike from the summit due to a lot of snow and I took a train down to Zermatt.
As altitude decreased, the snow of the mountains gradually disappeared. So I got off the train and I started to hike from Riffelalp station.
My destination was Sunnegga paradise, which was located on the other side of the valley.
It was a carefree hike since I'd walked the same hiking trail last year!
I stopped for lunch at the small restaurant between Riffelalp and the bottom of the valley.
The Matterhorn was a little far from the restaurant but there was nothing like beer while seeing the Matterhorn capped with snow.
Walking along the trail with your back against the Matterhorn, after a while you'll reach one of the 5 famous lakes, Gruensee.
It is a beautiful lake but unfortunately, you can see nothing but the very tip of the Matterhorn from there.
I kept on going down against a backdrop of the tip of Matterhorn and then I went up the slope of Sunnegga side.
A short way up the slope, there is another one of the 5 famous lakes, Grindjisee. Grindjisee is surrounded by needle-leaved trees and it's tricky to find. In fact, I'd missed the lake last year. I recommend you walk as watchfully as possible so you don't miss it.
Grindjisee is well-known for its lovely reflection of the Matterhorn in the lake. It seems that it is a well-used view in guidbooks and posters.
