"Trip B" / Glenorchy
Glenorchy is around 48km from Queenstown, I first read about it in the Lord of the Rings location guidebook. There were some wonderful view across the lake on the way from Queenstown to Glenorchy.

On the road to Glenorchy
It was a beautiful drive but most of the way to Glenorchy was winding. I highly recommended sitting in the front seat if you get carsick easily. We looked out across Lake Wakatipu. You can see the mountains which were the background to Isengard.

On the way to Middle-Earth
We drove through Glenorchy town, deer farms and cattle runs. It was an hour and a half drive.

Filming Site / 'Isengard(Around Glenorchy and Paradise)'
We got to the location that Isengard was filmed at. These mountains behind me were the mountains in the background of Isengard. Of course Isengard was created with computer graphics. Please compare the two mountains! (More Images ...)
