Heidelberg Castle
Heidelberg is part of Germany's "Castle Road". The Germany's "Castle Road" begins at Heidelberg and it stretches to the Czech capital, Prague through Nuernberg. There are about 70 castles and palaces along the road! Heidelberg Castle perhaps best-known symbol of Heidelberg city and it is a main tourist attraction. Shortly, after checking-in the hotel, I headed to the castle.

The castle was located on the hill in the south of the town and it was a 20-minute walk from my hotel.
left, right: View of the castle from town square. Heidelberg Castle provided the setting for one of my favorite comics, "Monster". The story was set in Germany and Heidelberg Castle was one of the important places in the story. So I visited there with some copies of the pertinent pages from the comic.

There are three ways of getting to the castle, walk up a steep slope, go up a stairs and take a cable car. If you want to go on foot, go along a path on the left of this beige building which was a cable car station. I couldn't find the path so I took the cable car.

The castle was just 10-15 minute walk to the station. There wasn't really much difference between walking uphill and going stairs.

The cable car almost ran through the tunnel and I could see tatally nothing! It cost 3 euro.

It was a cold day however there were lots of tourists in the lovely garden around the castle.

View over the old Heidelberg town
You can get wonderful views of Heidelberg and the Neckar River from the garden. Buildings with red-tiled roofs were very impressive.
