Gerlachschmiede(The old forge)
When you keep walking to the north of the town wall, you can see Gerlachschmiede(The old forge) on your left. I heard that 25 years ago it's open as a traditional forge. It was a half-timbered building with a unique shaped roof. For me it was one of the most charming structures in Rothenburg.
Some people took a dog for a walk on the town wall.... I wondered if the dogs are enjoying it!
A series of town wall defended the city from over the ages. These days, it seems that the wall divides the Middle Ages from present age. While walking on the town wall, you can see both row of medieval houses within the wall and modern streets of Rotenburg.
Roedertor
Was part of the defensive walls that encircled Rothenburg.
Galgentor
Was also part of the defensive walls. "Galgen" means "scaffold" and it's used to be a
place where public executions were held around this gate.
Shape of the buildings under construction were also old-style and they are perfect match to the row of medieval houses.
These days, we can walk about 3.5km of walkway on the town wall. It is about two-thirds of the town wall.
I finally arrived at Klingenbastei(Klingen tower), the other end of the old city. I walked on the town wall for over an hour and half!!
I went back to downtown and I had lunch. I ordered sausages once again!
I was very tired and I ordered two glass of beer. The first one was dark beer
"Weltenburger Kloster Bler". Sure enough, the combination of German beer and sausage
was excellent.
The second one was "LANDWEHR BRAEU". It was also refreshing!
