When traveling up to Zugspitze, you have two options. One is taking a direct train to the top of the mountain, the other is switching to the Eibsee aerial cablecar.
Recommended way is taking the Eibsee aerial cablecar all the way up and taking the train down for the return trip.
I heard that there are amazing views from the aerial cablecar.
Unfortunately, the aerial cablecar was closed because of the bad weather!
Eibsee is a lake which is located in the foot of the Zugshpitze and you can look down on the lake from the window.
Zugspitze is Germany's highest peak at 2962 meters. After 75 minutes ride, I arrived at Zugspitzplatt, 2600 meters above sea level.
When I went out from the train station, there was a white fied spreaded out in front of me under the blue sky. I was amazed by the beautiful view! The train runs through the mountain tunnel from the middle of the mountain. I couldn't look out the window and I didn't expect such a good weather!
Zugspitze is a popular ski area during the winter and also a popular hiking trail during the rest of the year.
If you want to hike, you can walk up the mountain for free. But if you are short on time or if you don't have a lot of guts like me, I recommend you to take the train. It is convenient and you will never fail by this way!
There is a gondola available to take you up to the peak of the Zugspitze mountain.
The real peak is about 400 meters upper from the gondla station.
