Stepping out of the gondola station, you will see a gold cross on the crag. The area around the cross is officially the highest point in Germany.
Unfortunately, the area was closed off to tourists because there was too much snow. You can climb to the gold cross in Summer!
View from the Zugspitze platform overlooking the ski slope.
View from the Zugspitze platform looking north toward Germany. The views were breathtaking! The Lake Eibsee is in the middle of the picture and the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen can be seen on the right.
View from the Zugspitze platform looking toward Austria. Zugspitze is in the southernmost region of Germany and it is part of the northern Alps. If the weather is good, you will have a wonderful panoramic view of the mountains and peaks of the Bavarian and the Austrian Alps.
I think that it is definitely worth to visit here!
Drinking beer with a wonderful view on the top of the mountain was no doubt very impressive!
Just hours after I arrived, the blue sky was covered with enormous gray clouds. The weather in the mountain is very unpredictable.
I heard that in general the weather of the Zugspitze is fine in the morning and then it clouds up in the afternoon. Best is to go hiking or skiing early in the day, and then if the weather gets worse, at least you have used the best part of the day. The cost was 36 Euro for a round-trip ticket and I stayed there for only a few hours because of the bad weather. However I thought it was worth a visit!
